I Think I Killed My Fuschia

Fuschia ‘Gartenmeister Bonstedt’ (or ‘Bonnsted, as I first saw it listed) is one of my favorite plants. Tender in my area (Zone 5), it has gorgeous, hummingbird-attracting blooms and dark foliage.

Dead or Dying Fuschia

I think I’ve killed mine.

How? Simply enough. I didn’t water it. And it didn’t rain much.

As you can see from the picture at left, it looks like there’s a chance I might save it. There are still some greenish leaves and some very small new leaves on the downward pointing shoot on the left.

WHY didn’t I water it? Stupid reason: I didn’t want to go out on the balcony. Why? I really don’t have a good answer for that. Going out means letting at least one cat out, too – Buzz can hear the sliding door open, I swear, even if he’s down in the family room, two levels below. Then there’s the hassle of him asking to come in, then changing his mind when I open the door, etc., etc. Certainly not a good reason.

Anyway, I just watered it heavily now, so I’ll keep you posted on what happens.
